    Hi,

Thanks for your feedback. We know the grid rolls back when you rotate the screen or move the insertion point, and are planning to fix this when we can. Sorry for the annoyance, I’ll let you know when this is likely to be, when I hear from our programmers.

    Kind regards,

    Hi,

Thanks for your suggestion. We have had a few people ask for this – and I can see its utility – but not as frequently as other features/bug fixes. We will be releasing a new version in the next week or two, with the most pressing of these addressed.

Due to limited funds, however, I’m sorry we can’t currently add this, but plan to when we can afford it. Thanks for your support, and I’m sorry we’re not able to help yet.

    Best regards,

    Tim

  4. Make key width customizable not just height. Also, add key sound volume adjustments, custom key fonts (just for keys on keyboard), swipe features to get to number and character inputs, split keyboard option for smartphone input, arrow keys in seperate keyboard area (possibly in a swipe menu like I spoke of previously). Increase keyboard's ability to keep up with faster typists d

    Hi,

Thanks for your comments. I’ll discuss them with the programmers to see which, if any, we’re able to add currently (we’re on limited resources unfortunately). We are especially looking into split keyboard layouts but this is likely to take a while.

On the speed issue, sorry it does sometimes go slowly at the start of words. We did a lot of work on speeding this up but there’s not much more we can do at the moment. The problem is the complexity of the task – simultaneous abbreviation expansion, word prediction (completion) and spelling correction, and at the start of a word the ambiguity is enormous. You can switch off abbreviation expansion, or autocorrect, which may help depending on the device. We’re hoping that one day we’ll get more resources to try and do more on this.
Incidentally, (you probably know but for the benefit of other readers), there…

  5. One of the best keyboards. Now you have arrow Keys. Great. Also very important is select Keys, perhaps on number screen with edit functions or shift + arrow. And, delete with shift + backspace. And there may be bugs. I cannot enter phrase in Abbreviations. It doesn't acccept space. And single words are not auto typed from Abbreviations. I am on Samsung Note 3, Android 5. 0 and free Flexpansion. Please continue your good work.

    Hi Mulo,

Thanks for your feedback. I’m glad you like a lot about the app.

We don’t currently offer a way of selecting text, which might be useful on a hard keyboard. Our statistics show that most users are using a touchscreen, where they have the selection mechanism in Android. I accept that this is far from ideal, as it’s fiddly and inaccurate, especially on a smaller screen. I hope we can add this functionality, but it will be some time before we’re able to, I’m sorry.

I’m not quite sure what you mean about the abbreviations issue; You’re correct that we don’t allow Space within an abbreviation, as it’s used to signal the end of an input and select a suggestion. We do allow spaces within the full-form you can enter, to be suggested from an abbreviation – is this not working correctly for you? Sorry, I’m not sure…

    Hi Christina,

Thanks for your suggestion. Apologies for slow reply, I missed this over the Christmas holiday.

I agree this would be useful. However on a cramped keyboard, I’m not sure where we could put this. Adding a key would make the other keys even narrower. Long-press delete is "repeat-delete”. Shift-delete might confuse users. Possibly a swipe from the delete button, but then the behaviour becomes inconsistent with other general swipes. Too complicated a gesture and people won’t discover it. Sorry I can’t currently think how we can make this work, but we’ll welcome any suggestions.

    Thanks again for your time,

    Tim

    Hi,

Thanks for your feedback. We tried to spread around the most-used punctuation so it could be called up with a single long-press of a letter, hence the exclamation mark being on long-press A. If we put them on the period, you then have to swipe along to get the one you want.
But I agree we could put them on both. I’ll ask the programmers whether this is something we can do quickly or not.
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Hi Bernhard,

We’ve just released a new version (might be 2 hours until live) fixing several things including making ä/ö/ü quicker to access. We also looked at fixing the issues you mentioned regarding spelling reform, but haven’t managed to include them in this release. They’re now a high priority though for another release soon.

    Kind regards,

    Tim

    Hi Bernhard,

Thanks for your feedback, we’re doing a new release in the next week or two, so we’ll try to do this (certainly “daß”). Are there any other words particularly to remove please? We will try to take into account the 1996 reform so this should take care of most.

Making a general facility to remove words is a longer task; we are hoping to be able to do this in the next few months.

    Thanks,

    Tim

    Hi Nick,

Apologies for slow response, thanks for your feedback.

I’m not sure what you mean here – we don’t capitalise after a hash character do we? I can’t reproduce this. Can you give us the exact situation please?

We’ve had a few requests for period after double-space. It’s a bit tricky because we use space to complete words and if we introduce it the behaviour may be unexpected for some users. It’s in the timing… If and when we get the resources I hope we can try and add this but it will be a while I’m afraid.

    Best regards,

    Tim

    Hi Sean,

    Thanks for writing.

Do you know about Long-press-Space, which leaves whatever you typed unchanged, and learns it? There’s then the option to Forget it again, by tapping the menu button, or keep typing and keep it. You can add items to the personal dictionary any time too.

We’ve been considering whether to add another button to do the same thing, but have so far decided against, because on a small screen every additional button really does cramp up the space. If we put it on the second row down, that’d shift everything sideways; if we take a bite out of the space bar, it becomes lop-sided. if we put another key on the left of the suggestions box, it shortens it.

If enough people want it, we’ll add it, but for now I think it wouldn’t be ideal. I hope that’s ok.

    Cheers,

    Tim, Flexpansion

Thanks for your feedback (I’ve just emailed you directly about this and your other feedback).

The idea of typing using the empty language mode is for people typing in a really specialist field, where they train it using the bulk learning mechanism:

Menu > More > Gmail and other learning > Learn from anything

and then it predicts only using the words and phrases it’s just learned from. We see this being most useful for programmers, and people with lots of specialist terminology such as scientists etc.

I’m not sure what you mean by scrambling, but I think this is related to the issue you were having with inputting sets of letters without them being expanded – which you can do by long-pressing Space.

I’ll update this issue when I hear back,

    Thanks,

    Tim, CEO.

    Hi,

Thanks for your feedback. Sorry you’re having problems. Prediction should show all the time, except in fields like passwords; what I suspect might be happening is if you’re accidentally swiping down, it hides prediction. Re-enable by swiping up on the keyboard. If it’s not this causing it, then it might be the app it’s typing into (some disable prediction and there’s nothing we can do from our end unfortunately), or even the device. Samsung ones are particularly known for not co-operating with other keyboards :-(

Typo correction should be offered, along with the other predicted suggestions; we mix them all together; we plan to signpost them by displaying them in a different colour, but this isn’t simply to program. If the corrections aren’t appearing, please see in the Settings. Also to keep the number of suggestions manageable, we don’t correct certain kinds of typos – for instance where 2…

    Hi Carla,

Thanks for your suggestion, sorry I missed it until now over the holiday rush.

    I’m afraid we don’t currently plan to add this, due to limited programming resources; if there are more requests then we’ll reconsider. I don’t know if this is any help, but if you have a larger device and use the Split Screen option, the arrow keys appear near the middle then;

Menu > More > Settings > User Interface > Split Keyboard

Sorry we can’t help further for the time being.

    Kind regards,

    Tim

    Hi again,

We are busy preparing for Mobile World Congress, taking place all of this coming week, so we’ve not completed this yet, sorry – but it is high on our priorities for early March, so rest assured we will get there! (We’re also adding a couple of other things so I think you’ll like it).

    Hi,

    Thanks for your suggestions.

We’ve been considering user-sourced data for a long time but haven’t had the resources; mainly we would need to make 100% certain that data was anonymised fully, and protected, which will take some time. We plan to add this when we can.

A chat option would be nice, but we’ve not had great demand for it thus far, so again, for now, I’m afraid we’re not planning it for the time being.

    Thanks again,

    Tim, CEO

    Hi,

Thanks for your feedback. We’ll look into this.

Could I clarify which ads you mean though, please? Do you mean the popups asking you to consider buying Flexpansion? Are they not easily dismissed? You should not be getting any other ads at all, unless you’re using our Edinburgh Festival version. If you’re using that app a lot, you could switch to Flexpansion FREE, which doesn’t have any ads. We’d be very grateful for more info on this,

    Kind regards,

    Hi Mulo,

    Thanks for your suggestion.

We do actually have this Undo functionality, if you swipe left on the keyboard. (Swipe right to Redo again, or insert the top left suggestion). But I also see that we don’t have a key that does it. The problem with using the backspace key for it is that we would then be doing something potentially confusing for users. Sometimes people might select a long word then delete the last couple of characters to get what they wanted, I know I do myself sometimes. For instance, I might want “transported” and for some reason am only offered “transporting”, which is close. I’d select it and delete the last 3 characters and fix the tense. Of course, it’d be better if we got the suggestion right more often, and this is our current development priority.

    Kind regards,

    Dr Tim Willis, CEO
